1.4 million euros from Norway for the development of Montenegrin municipalities
The project „ Norway for you-Montenegro“, financed by the Kingdom of Norway with 1.4 million euros for the development of municipalities in Montenegro, and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services UNOPS, was presented today in Podgorica.
By the end of 2020, the project’s activities will focus on the balanced socio-economic development of Montenegro, through increasing employment opportunities, supporting social cohesion and improving local inftrastructure in 16 less developed municipalities.
Employment directly affects the quality of life of the population, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare is ready to support such iniitiatives that ultimately lead to stimulating employment generation by improving the business environment. The “Norway for you” project has added value since it will be implemented through the comprehensive cooperation of various institutions at the state and local level. We are grateful to the Kingdom of Norway and its Embassy for an initiative that is aimed at improving the living conditions of the citizens of Montenegro, “said Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Kemal Purisic.
The project “Norway for you-Montenegro” is in line with the relevant national strategies of Montenegro in the field of employment and balanced regional development.
“The Ministry of Economy has implemented a number of measures and programs for strengthening competitiveness, and during the preparation of the project Norway for you “we realized that we have the same goals.“ “We will be a serious partner and I believe that the project will be successful, and that the residents of these municipalities will feel its results, “said Miloš Čelanović, Director General for Development of the Ministry of Economy of Montenegro.
Project activities are directed towards municipalities with low development index – Andrijevica, Berane, Bijelo Polje, Cetinje, Danilovgrad, Gusinje, Kolašin, Mojkovac, Nikšić, Petnjica, Plav, Pljevlja, Rožaje, Šavnik, Ulcinj and Žabljak.
“Some parts of the country are developing faster than others, and new jobs are created around larger centers. That is why, through the project “Norway for you – Montenegro”, we will contribute to employment in less developed municipalities, so that the inhabitants of these parts of the country can achieve economic independence. We have good partners with whom we are implementing the project and I believe that we support those who need it most, “said the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Arne Sanes Bjornstad.
