The government proposed an increase in the minimum wage to 222 euros
The Government of Montenegro authorized its members in the Social Council to propose an increase in the minimum wage by 15%, which would be an increase of 222 euros from the current 193 euros.
The minimum wage in Montenegro is the lowest in the region and was established in 2013. The minimum wage is slightly higher in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Kosovo, although they are lower than average wages.
According to the Prime Minister, the Government will, as before, implement all activities in constant communication with stakeholders: both social partners and entrepreneurs and representatives of the profession, science and the civil sector, all with the aim of achieving key priorities – further economic growth and development, improvement the living standard of the citizens, the business environment and the creation of new jobs.
The employers’ union assessed an acceptable proposal by the Government of Montenegro to increase the minimum wage by 15 percent, or 193 from the amount of 222 euros. “This will increase labor costs, but it will be consolidated at the level of higher salaries (above the minimum) in terms of lowering the cost of doing business in the name of earnings, since it is proposed to reduce the health insurance contribution by two percent, in favor of employers, by almost 50 percent at a valid rate of 4.3 percent, “the Employers Union said.
