At least 200 million euros will be invested in the airports
The IFC analysis shows that the investments for Podgorica and Tivat airport will be at least EUR 200 million for the next 25-30 years. What is particularly important is the concessionaire’s obligation to develop the airport in Tivat and to upgrade airport capacity to meet security and safety requirements. Knowing how important is the location of Tivat, and taking into account the current capacity of that airport, which is not capable of night flights, it is clear why the investment in this airport is the highest priority. In addition to investing in existing ones, there is an obligation of the concessionaire to develop a feasibility study and business plan for airports in Berane and Ulcinj, on the basis of which the Government will decide on their commissioning.
Also, the IFC estimates that by the year 2030 there will be 900 employees at Montenegrin airports, which is about 60 percent more than the current number.
Minister of Transport Osman Nurkovic is convinced that the concession on the airports will be a significant instigator of even more intensive growth of local economy and tourism as one of the key development branches. The decision that the draft concession act is given to a public debate is a step further towards a better process transparency.
